San Miguel moving company - AZmovingPros.Mission San Miguel Arcangel was founded July 25, 1797, by Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen, assisted by Father Buenaventura Sitjar. It was located at a beautiful spot on the Salinas River where there was plenty of water for irrigation. Some of the canals and dams built by the fathers for irrigating their orchards and crops may be seen around the mission. The first temporary wooden buildings were gradually replaced, from 1799 to 1804, by adobe structures. Fire almost destroyed the entire establishment in 1806, and plans were made for reconstruction on a more spacious scale. The church building that was begun in 1816 and completed in 1818 still stands. Secularization took place in 1836, followed by confiscation and neglect. In 1859, the mission was returned to the church, and in 1878 a resident priest took up his office. The principal church  building was restored, and the Franciscan  Fathers, who maintain the old place as a novitiate, now hold services there. It is one of  four California missions still in the hands of the Franciscan order.
