Nipomo moving company
One of the most famous old ranchos of California was the domain of almost 38,000 acres that constituted Rancho Nipomo ( an Indian word said to mean ” foot of the ountain”), for many years first stopping place on El Camino Real south of Mission San Luis Obispo. Many of the early books on California mention Captain Dana, the owner of this rancho, his pleasant home at Nipomo, and his lavish hospitality. Among the travelers who were Dana’s quests over the years were Colonel Jonh C. Fremont, author of What I Saw in California. William Goodwin Dana, a cousin of Richard Henry Dana Jr.(who wrote two Years Before the Mast), was born in Boston in 1797 and received his education there. While still a young man, he went to Canton in China and later to India in the service of his uncle, a Boston merchant. Returning home after three years, he soon reembarked, possibly on the Waverly, of which he was captain a few years later. In this capacity he engaged for several years in trade between China, the Sandwich(hawaiian) Islands, California, and Boston.
Freemont, on his way from Monterey to Los Angeles in December 1846, camped at Rancho Nipomo with his battalion of 430 hungry and footsore soldier, soaked to the skin by the rain through which they had tramped on the long march from the north. The campsite was located in an oak grove at a point known as the Summit, not far from Casa de Dana; it is northwest of Nipomo on the west side of US 101.
Nipomo is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 12,626 at the 2000 census.
