Morro Bay movers
Vicente Canet, a Spanish sailor, settled in Alta California before 1828. In 1840 he received a grant of one square league of land lying between San Bernardo and Morro Creeks, both of which empty into Morro Bay. The following year Don Vicente was a magistrate at Mission San Luis Obispo. His rancho home was built about that time on a hill above San Bernardo Creek two miles east of Morro Bay. Privately owned, it still stands on the north side of SR 1, to the east of a junction with San Bernardo Creek Road. One and one-quarter miles beyond the Canet adobe, toward San Luis Obispo, Canet Road leads half a mile to the old family cemetery. Farther east on SR1, one mile east of Cuesta College and on the outskirts of the city of San Luis Obispo, is Camp San Luis Obispo, the original home of the California National Guard.
