Long Beach Harbor has two interesting tourist attractions. The Queen Mary, launched in Scotland in 1936, was one of the great passenger liners in the heyday of Atlantic crossings. After World War 2, when it served as troop transport, it returned to luxury travel. Phased out by the Cunard Line, it was acquired in 1967 by the city of Long Beach, and it is now operated as a hotel, restaurant, and museum complex. Although permanently moored in the harbor, it is still the largest passenger liner afloat, and certainly one of the most handsome. The Aquarium of the Pacific opened in 1998 at 100 Aquarium  Way and is another of the many large and well-designed aquariums on the Pacific Coast.

Long Beach is a city located in Southern California, on the Pacific coast. It is situated in Los Angeles County, about 20 miles  south of downtown Los Angeles. Long Beach borders Orange County on its southeast edge.

Long Beach is the 38th-largest city in the nation and the sixth-largest in California. As of January 1, 2009, its estimated population was 492,682. In addition, Long Beach is the 2nd largest city within the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The city completely surrounds the city of Signal Hill.
