Moving to Los Angeles? Here are some tips and recommendations for you:
Living in Los Angeles gives you a deep connection with the nature, ocean. Just take a drive along the coast. But if you prefer a more mountainous excursion, you can take a long drive along hillside and mountain roads, say, along Mulholland, Sunset or into the Malibu Hills… and really get that feeling like you’re away from it all.
A lot of natural amenities abound in and around Los Angeles… all within a short (or reasonable) drive. Mountains; Beach; Desert; Lakes. The area has it all. Of course, timing is everything and getting out of the city can be a real pain considering the relentless traffic (but with experience and planning, it can be managed). Traffic, after a while, is grating on one’s psyche, though.
Ultimately, you’ll have to spend some time in L.A. to really determine how you feel about it. I recommend getting in as close to the studios as possible, or the west side considering the odd hours you’ll work on the job (but if you work in an area where you’re out in the field a lot, then you might want to live somewhere close to activities you enjoy participating in
By the way, a lot of people get pollution confused with the “marine layer” that lingers in throughout the basin. And that’s what L.A. is, a basin since it’s surrounded by mountain ranges. It’s not smog. California is actually pretty respectable with its pollution standards considering they have a lot of industry there (as I got older, my allergies all but disappeared after a while).
Living in Los Angeles is a great idea.
Many major corporations hold their headquarters in the L.A. area; multiple industries are centered in the city; and best of all, day to day living can be filled with almost any of your favorite recreational activities, wonderful cuisine, and an action-packed nightlife.
Los Angeles County was one of the original twenty-seven counties. Its boundaries have been changed many times; at its largest, in 1852-55, it covered an area of 31,000 square miles. The City of Los Angeles has always been the county seat, and its archives contain many prestatehood records in Spanish. Rancho San Rafael(Glendale, Eagle Rock, Verdugo City). One of the first grants made in Alta California was the Great Rancho San Rafael given to Jose Maria Verdugo in 1784 and 1798. It was one of the largest of all the grants, comprising 36,000 acres of pasturage from the Arroyo Seco to Mission San Fernando. Four modern cities lie within its area. Eagle Rock takes its name from a massive rock that resembles an eagle in flight. It was an important landmark in early California. The rock, located at the northern end of Figueroa Street, has been declared a historic-cultural monument by the city of Los Angeles. Pasadena is one of the longest-established residential communities in Los Angeles County. The oldest house in the area was built in 1869, five years before the founding of Pasadena, and is a privately owned adobe, “The Heritage”, at 2121 Monte Vista Street. The lovely residential community of Altadena takes its name from a nursery established in 1875 north of Pasadena and at the edge of the San Gabriel Mountains. Altadena was intended to mean “Upper Pasadena”. From here, an electric railway into the mountains ran between 1893 and 1938. Power for the Mount Lowe Railway came from a substation at 2245 Lake Avenue, now converted into commercial spaces. San Marino is another beautiful residential community, between Pasadena and San Gabriel. An old adobe house that was part of its history was at Los Robles, the 400-acre estate of George Stoneman, governor of Califirnia between 1883 and 1887. A monument at the site of the house at 1912 Montrobles Place incorporates some of the old adobe bricks. In the beautiful valley of Pomona west of the Arroyo de San Antonio, the boundaries of the great Rancho San Jose were first laid out by Ygnacio Palomares and Ricardo Vejar on March 19, 1837, the feast of St. Joseph. Father Zalvidea, who accompanied the party from Mission San Gabriel, performed the first Christian religious service ever held in the valley when he pronounced a benediction upon the two families about to establish their homes in the wildernes of San Jose. The ceremony was held under an oak tree, the stump of which still stands in the city of Ponoma at 458 Kenoak Place. A bronze tablet commemorating this event was placed here in 1922 by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
