El Dorado movers

california moving companyEl Dorado County was one of the original twenty-seven counties. The first county seat was at Coloma, but it was superseded by Placerville in 1857. The Spanish term El Dorado means ‘The gilded man’ and was given to the county because gold was discovered there.

Mud Springs, later known as El Dorado, was an important camp on the old Carson Emigrant Trail, subsequently becoming a mining center and crossroads station for freight and stage lines. It was a remount station of the Pony Express in 1860-61. The name Mud Springs was bestowed on the camp because the ground around the springs where the emigrants watered their stock was always muddy-a name applied likewise to a number of other old California campsites. This was changed to El Dorado when the town was incorporated during the height of the gold fever.
