Chico moving company - AZmovingProsChico, named for the creek and the rancho, now is a bustling city centered on the university and surrounded by prosperous farmlands. The older district of the city, shaded by fine trees, contains some interesting old buildings. The Gage house at 410 Normal Avenue, built in 1861, is the oldest in town. Nearby is the Stansbury House at 307 West fifth Street, built in 1883 for Dr. Oscar Stansbury of Mississippi. Dr. Stansbury practiced medicine for many years in Chico; his daughter Angelina’s will bequeathed the home to the city of Chico when she died in 1974. It is open to the public and maintained by a preservation association. The Chico museum at Salem and Second streets has, among other displays, parts of a Chinese temple reconstructed from the days when a large Chinese community was part of many northern California towns. The state university campus is a particularly attractive one to visit. The administration building is the oldest part of the campus; it replaced the Normal School Building of 1887, which was destroyed  by fire in 1927.
