Ione moving company
Ione was variously known in the Gold Rush days as “Bed Bug” and “Freeze Out.” But the place grew, and the more euphonious name of Ione replaced the older ones. Ione is a heroine in the 1834 novel The Last Days of Pompeii by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and some believe is the source of the town’s name. Others cite Ione in Illinois, perhaps the home of an early pioneer. Then there is the story of William Hicks, who came to California with Chile’s-Walker party in 1843, and for a while settled in the area. He was the first to prospect the valley, which he left in 1850. When asked by visitors who owned all the land, Hicks is said to have replied, “I own it.”
