Union city movers
The Alvarado district of Union City is on what was once a part of the Rancho de los Cerritos, granted to Agustin Alviso and Tomas Pacheco in 1844. Alviso, a prosperous ranchero, married Maria Antonia Pacheco in 1830; he was mayordomo at Missioa San Jose in 1840-41. Tomas Panheco was a soldier of the San Francisco Company from 1826 to 1832 and later held various offices at the Pueblo de San Jose from 1834 to 1843. Both men built adobe houses, neither of which stand today. The site of the New Haven embarcadero and of the building used as a county courthouse is at Union City Boulevard near Smith Street; some old wooden buildings still stand in the vicinity.
